r2 redux

The nice folks at Rowan sent me a little R2 info packet. It even came with a sample card of the rag yarn. Some of the ideas scare me a bit, but I'm looking forward to experimenting with the paper yarn. I quite like the idea of making clothing out of paper. Does anyone else remember the gorgeous tyvek evening gown someone (maybe Carolyn Roehm?) designed quite a few years back?

This will be my last post for a few days. I'm moving this weekend (ugh) and who knows when I'll be unpacked enough to even think of anything knit?!?

Paris Loop - c'est fini!

Apologies for the terrible photo, but it's the best I could do by myself. Better photos to come! I finished up Paris Loop last weekend. Stefanie's cute pattern is very easy for a complete novice like me to comprehend and got me over my "fear" of circular needles. I'm completely happy with how it turned out and may even make another one out of my Schoeller Stahl Skyline Light.

poncho a go go

I just saw the April MagKnits newsletter this morning and found yet another project I'd like to knit. I don't know what it is about ponchos that is appealing to me lately, but I think I'll add Amy Fong's sheer poncho to my to knit list.

I finished Paris Loop on Saturday. I am in the process of packing to move to a new apartment this Friday, so I'm not sure when I'll get to post a picture. My Paris Loop turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself, and I will probably even wear it! It's too bad I work in such a conservative office, and can't wear it there, because the colors of the yarn coordinate perfectly with the 80s marble monstrosity that is my office tower.

Finally, there are a few more glimpses of Rowan's R2 magazine. I'm really looking forward to seeing the magazine and the new line of crazy new yarn. There's a store in the suburban hinterlands called Yarnzilla that will be carrying the line, so hopefully I'll get to make a trip out there and check things out in person after I move next weekend.

the periphèrique

No photo yet, but a few more trips around the periphèrique and Paris Loop will be finished! It's a chilly spring this year, so I'm sure to get a few chances to wear it, if it doesn't turn out horribly ugly and deformed.

Knit away your post traumatic stress disorder?

A British psychologist says people who witness horrifying events can prevent flashbacks by knitting, The Mirror reported Friday.

It sounds goofy at first, but I do believe knitting helps me to better process my thoughts. I definitely feel more centered and less prone to worry if I spend a good chunk of time knitting. However, how likely is it that someone is going to be able to pick up some knitting while they are observing a traumatic event?

only love can break your heart

Yesterday's garage sale was a bust. I got a couple of silly books, but that is all. By the time Molly and I arrived, the yarn selection was positively scary. I suppose I had it in my head that a benefit garage sale would mean something different than a regular garage sale. Maybe it was better if you got there right as the doors opened.

I was suffering an attack of the mean reds today, and having no Tiffany's nearby, I decided to go to my neighborhood park to knit and read in the sun. I can't say it cured my malaise, but it was nice to get some air and come a bit closer to finishing up Paris Loop. The photo doesn't really capture it, in fact it makes it look downright strange, but it looks pretty snazzy in person.

garage sale

Paris Loop is a lot further along than the picture below would indicate. After a little knitting on yesterday's lunch break I've reached the halfway point. Hopefully, I will finish it this weekend.

Instead of knitting this morning, I'll be going to a garage sale at the Textile Center of Minnesota. It should be fun. I'm hoping to see hordes of women fighting over yarn like it's a $40 WalMart DVD player at Christmas time.
