I unsuccessfully started my hunt for earrings to send to my secret PINK earring swap partner. It's harder to find cute pink earrings than you might think. Oh, how I long for a Two+Two kiosk and their 5 pairs for $10 promotions.

While shopping, I did find a cute new knitting bag (pictured over there on the right) at TJ Maxx. No I never never pay full price! Oh how I love paying $20 for something I've been wanting to order from Fred Flare at the whopping price of $55. I like to bring my knitting with me to work - do you think the partners at the firm will be appalled by my fabulous new bag? Probably.

I didn't knit much last night, but I do plan to work a bit more on Frida while I watch tonight's exciting episode of Blow Out (a girl has to have one guilty pleasure reality tv show she's hooked on).

baby totally knock out

Ahh, I had lovely, non-drug-enhanced sleep last night. I think it may have been induced by the rather boring dorky on demand movie I watched before bed. Who knows why I have a special place in my heart for bad teen movies? At least it didn't require my undivided attention so I got a wee bit more of Frida completed.

Right now I should be continuing in my anal retentive efforts to rid the program I'm working on of all typos, but it's so much more fun to listen to wacky music and look at my favorite knitting blogs and see what everyone else is doing. I'm a bit jealous of some of them. I need to remind myself that I've only been at this since Jan., and I will get faster and better -- and hopefully, much less neurotic about it.

As a reward for getting some work done today, I picked up a couple of skeins of it so I could make another scarf.

better living through chemistry

I think I'm going to have to break up with my boyfriend Tylenol PM. We used to get along so well, but he isn't treating me as nicely as he used to. I hadn't slept properly all week, so last night I took two of those nice little blue pills. Unfortunately they worked a little too well, and 10+ hours of sleep later I'm still feeling rather foggy.

Molly's Halcali and Tommy February CDs are playing right now, and I'm hoping the perky music will wake me up a bit. If these don't work I may have to bring in the big guns.

There is nothing more I would like right now than relaxing in the park and knitting a little (and trying to get rid of the goofy tan lines caused by last week's sun burn). Instead I need to pep up and get some work done. There's a deadline involved so I absolutely have to get these content updates entered and find and fix every last freakin' typo, despite my desire to start playing with my R2 paper yarn.

Time to go make more coffee.

Mystery Scarf for Mystery Friend

I had been holding back on posting this until I sent it off, but it should be safe because I don't think my mystery friend, who will be getting the scarf, reads this blog.

Can you believe this is the first garter stitch scarf I have ever knitted? A certain friend admired my Paris Loop, so I thought I'd use up the leftover cicco and make her a scarf. Too bad she'll have to wait a few months to wear it.

I sat in the park for a couple of hours this afternoon and read and knitted and burned my knees to a crisp. I haven't had a sunburn in years, so I didn't think to wear sunscreen. Foolish mistake. At least I got a couple of inches done on Frida.

I haven't knitted a single stitch this week. My misadventures with Frida sidetracked me a bit, but I'll get going on it soon.

CUTiE

I have to say that in all my years, I have never seen anything quite so cute as this (via catherine's pita). In an effort to make this post have some relevance to knitting, I suppose I could say that if the adorable creature was my child, I would knit her this also adorable dinosaur hat.

Today's D-Day memorials make me think about how the effects of the World War II were felt by everyone. I imagine one felt rather scared and useless here on the home front and that being able to volunteer to do something, like knitting socks for the boys, must have made one feel just a little less helpless in the whole situation.

In honor of these volunteers, the American Red Cross has come out with a WWII Commemorative Knit Kit, complete with pattern, yarn and needles (found via As The Yarn Turns). I love historical reproductions like this, and the proceeds from this one support a worthy cause. Here's a link to a more detailed photo of the prototype kit.

The Imperial War Museum shop also sells World War II-era reproductions, though I can't find any available for purchase online. When I was there I picked up a very interesting little booklet on mending and re-fashioning your clothing, in order to make do with the fabric rationing.
