I'm still running at the mouth about my trip to Japan, so forgive yet another post that doesn't say much about knitting.

One of the things I love about Japan is seeing women
out and about wearing kimono. I've always liked kimono, but really fell in love with the beautiful garments when my sister's friend dressed us up in kimono on my first visit to Japan.
Since it would be a bit bizarre for me to walk around town wearing one, I use the internet to get the vicarious kimono experience. As you know, there are now blogs about everything -- even kimono.
Here are a few I visit quite frequently.

Though I have nowhere to wear it, I do own one very cute yukata I bought off eBay. The silhouette really appeals to me, so I've long had my eye on Kyoto from Knitty (though I hesitate to add yet another knitting project to my to knit list).

Despite the fact that I wouldn't get a chance to wear it, if I had my way I'd buy a whole ensemble from Mamechiyo. Her kimono and yukata are amazing!
Since I couldn't justify buying a kimono or yukata on my last trip, I found the next best thing -- a great Kimono book by Mamechiyo called kimono a la mode (ISBN 4-09-103468-3).
The book is great, with wonderful Pierre et Gilles-ish photos and 60s style illustrations. Even if you never plan to wear a kimono, the color and pattern combinations are inspiring. Kimono a la mode also contains instructions, complete with photographs, on how to "get the knack" with wearing kimono.
