A quick post to say, hurrah for mail. Two little packages arrived for me today.
First, I finally ordered that Red Cross Knit Kit I posted about oh so long ago. Now, I'm not certain this means my no sock knitting pact is off. The kit just seems almost too cute to use.
The pattern is a color reproduction of an original WWII-era pattern, complete with yellow, aged effect and there's a write-up about the humble sock attached to the inside of the lid. It's really quite nice and would make a great gift for nearly any knitter.
To continue with the historical theme, I also bought a copy of No Idle Hands : The Social History of American Knitting. I can't wait to dive into this!

I remember seeing your post on that and wanting that kit. Is the yarn gray?
I still haven't tried knitting socks yet. I bought 2 balls of sock yarn a year ago and it is still untouched. Do you think that it is hard?

The yarn is a beautiful olive drab color. I'm pretty intimidated about using DPNs. Maybe I'll break down and take a sock class. I can't believe I just typed that because I always vowed never to knit socks. Not because I didn't think they weren't a worthy project, justs that I really don't wear socks very often.
