The big, evil bookstore I visited yesterday didn't have Knitscene. Now I couldn't be thwarted in my search for a knitting fix, so I picked up the Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns from their sale table.
The Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns is nicely designed, with color photographs of each stitch pattern. I appreciate that the instructions for each stitch pattern are written out and also provided in chart form. This should appease any knitter, no matter which direction they swing. Admittedly, some of the directions are confusing. However, most of those are on stitch patterns that have a 19 row (or more!) repeat, so I won't be bothering with them in this lifetime!
I adore looking at stitch patterns. Who knows why? I probably spend more time looking at books than actually knitting. I'm currently on the hunt for a stitch pattern to use in a new variation on the orangina theme for my own use (be assured that I won't be sharing a pattern or infringing any copyright).
There was one stitch pattern I found very appealing, and it might also be useful for any celeb obsessed knitters out there who are planning on making something for the impending TomKitten/Cruiselet.
The pattern is called clams. Isn't it pretty?
I was thinking it might be just the thing for an e-meter cozy for their nursery.

I like looking at stitch patterns, too. I definitely spend more time looking at knitting books than actual knitting. My book editor friend just sent me the Loop D Loop book. So many books, so little time....sigh.

You are so lucky to have an editor friend (one of the benefits of living in NY, I think). Don't you love the loop-d-loop book? I especially like that yellow sweater.

It's great. I am spoiled by her because she is a cook book editor and I love to cook. I didn't even know her company published knitting books until I mentioned buying yarn one day. I need to knit her something to thank her. I usually drop off baked goods for her, but now something knitted should be next.
The yellow sweater is very pretty. It fits your style. Are you going to knit that?

That would be sweet of you. I bet she'd love it. It would be cool if you made her something from one of the books she's given you.
I love the yellow sweater, but from what I remember of the pattern, it seemed quite complicated.

Yeah, I feel like a lot of projects are a bit out of my league right now especially since I am a slow knitter and I get distracted and start new projects without finishing old ones. But the book is so nice to look at.

I could have written the identical comment. Perhaps there will come a day when I'm a bit speedier and more focused with my knitting.

Your package was sent today by Priority Mail, so be on the look out for a package. Let me know how the earrings fit. I can alter the wire that goes through your ear.
Thanks for the gift idea. I started the Airy Scarf from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts. That was one of the first knitting books she sent me. It's something decorative that she could wear around the office.

Whee... I'm so excited!
The airy scarf is very pretty. I bet she'll love it!

In your August 20 post you showed the cutest picture of a little Shi Tzu in a hat and kerchief. I would like to get the pattern for that. Do you know where/how I might get that?
