catwalk knits

Catwalk Queen (one of my new favorite blogs) just posted their picks of the best knitwear to wear this season. They also have a bonus post on shrugs and capelets.

It's interesting to me that so many of the styles and silhouettes have already been popular in the world of hand knitting for at least a year or two. It makes me wonder if knitting a shrug or mini sweater this year is something I'd come to regret. Perhaps they've become so popular that it would look horribly dated next year...

The post also mentions that they think grey is a great color to wear right now. I agree, and that's why I'm seeking out your help.

I am on a desperate hunt for a grey wool coat to wear this winter. I have been looking everywhere! The only thing I've found is a Burberry coat on BlueFly. At $700, well, I just can't make that sort of investment.

Has anyone out there seen a cute, grey wool coat anywhere?

banana republic has a grey wool/cashmere one for a little over 200 and a peacoat for 99. Ill keep looking though

You are the best. That BR coat is really great. It's not as dark a grey as I was hoping for, but would work really well. I had looked at the BR store near me but didn't see anything. I guess my BR sucks and a trip to the mall is in my future.

i've given up looking for coats at jcrew and banana recently. i DO like them a lot (i still wear a light blue coat that i got at jcrew three years ago) but they've gone over-the-top expensive these past few years. i suggest trying a place with more variety, since coats can go out of style so quick, like tjmaxx, filene's, or even burlington coat factory. you might have better luck finding something cheaper that will be in style for at least two seasons.

I agree with gleek. J Crew has gotten really expensive, and I don't think the quality of their coats is all that great. I have a black J Crew coat whose lining started to rip out a year after I got it. I love Filenes and TJ's - try there.

I'm totally deprived of Filene's. We used to have a basement store, but that closed quite some time ago.

I do like TJ's and Marshall's. I found a $3000 (tags were still inside the dress) Armani cocktail dress for only $100 on the clearance rack at Marshall's. It was the best bargain score ever!

I am not sure about if they have anything grey but I just bought a winter coat at Ann Taylor Loft. It is green and was 50% off. Can not beat that in my book!

If you do end up buying something on bluefly I recently won a bunch of 10% off coupons (trying to win a designer bag). I could pass one along to you if you find anything on there.

Ok, I went to Banana yesterday and tried on that grey wool/cashmere "town coat." It wasn't pretty and made me look like my pudgy alter ego, Chubby Mumkins. Marshall's and Marshall Field's also failed me. What's with the non-love for grey coats? Methinks the next step is to try vintage.
