Now Norma Knits just posted a very humorous PSA about the recent issues that everyone has been having with Typepad.
We've got the "we're growing much faster than we realized we would, but of course even while we're going to be taking the whole system down and putting it back up somewhere else, we still haven't stopped SELLING the service and offering 'buy one, get one free' deals, and 'give a blog to your whole family and your whole high school class for Christmas' deals, and oh, yes, in addition, we're moving to a new facility and we're buying more power and we have to get all this hooked up and the components talking to each other, and you just KNOW that an upgrade NEVER means an upgrade. It means several levels of downgrades, because no one remembered that the upgrade was not going to be compatible with the yellow gidget, and the widget over there was not going to connect with the nidget on here" blues.
So, if this blog goes missing for a bit, that's why.

Heh. We've got the "we're growing much faster than we realized we would, but of course even while we're going to be taking the whole system down and putting it back up somewhere else, we still haven't stopped SELLING the service and offering 'buy one, get one free' deals, and 'give a blog to your whole family and your whole high school class for Christmas' deals, and oh, yes, in addition, we're moving to a new facility and we're buying more power and we have to get all this hooked up and the components talking to each other, and you just KNOW that an upgrade NEVER means an upgrade" blues. Wish I'd thought to write that initially.

I don't think it is quite finished, because they emailed everyone yesterday warning of downtime this weekend and laid out their big agenda for upgrades. It's been pretty annoying for awhile, at least from a Typepad-user point of view. I am looking forward to them sorting out their difficulties soon!

Hi Amy! Your post is hilarious and yes, I'll be suffering the Typepad "transition" as well :-( Grrrrrrrr.........

I wish that I could lay claim to them, but the words are Norma's!
Here's hoping the transition is a quick one!

One word: Wordpress.
Ok.. there are downsides. And you have to find a hosting service, then install. And I'm always worried *I'll* take my site down on my own. Still... I do like Wordpress.

Yeah, I've looked into hosting my own CMS, but I just don't want the hassles. I used to have my own web site, but for something like my knit blog I like being coddled with a managed solution like Typepad. I just reserve the right to complain when they are having issues.
