- Daddy won't buy me a jet!

- My evil cold came back so I haven't been doing much knitting. Instead, I've been pawing through Glampyre's Fitted Knits and Twinkle's Big City Knits looking for ideas for future projects that I won't actually get around to knitting. Glampyre/Stefanie has created an errata page for her book (I love when designers are on top of that). If you'd like to knitalong or ask questions there is a Fitted Knits Flickr group. There's also a Flickr group for the Twinkle book -- started by Knit Lit Kate, I do believe.

- The montages are my favorite part of the Oscars. Here's a video montage of photos from classic Hollywood as shot by Magnum photographers [via]. I also watch the Oscars for the gowns. My favorite was Anne Hathaway's Valentino. I know it wasn't well liked by others, but I loved it.

- One definite no-show for the Oscars is American Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour.”No way. I’m off to London to see Equus,” she told me. Asked about the controversial nude scene by Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe – currently Heat magazine’s ‘Torso of the Week’ – Ms Wintour smiled and said:”I’m ready!”. [via]

- Pictaps -- Make a creepy dancing character and then torture your friends with it!

- I know I've been reading too many bag blogs when $1200 for a covetous handbag doesn't seem unreasonable to me. However, this is even more out of control. $148,000 for a bag? Maybe I'll have to stick to goofy handbags like this one. If kate spade is more your thing, you may enjoy taking a peek behind the curtain [via].

- I have a large, red quilted Chanel bag that I borrowed from my sister Ashley. Mary-Kate writes for the Times [via]. Not to be outdone, Ashley (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) blogs about the Oscar fashions.

- Now, I've never had a baby, but these felted wool pads just don't seem like a good idea to me. Itchy!

- Yes, it's a bit late for Valentine's day, but it's never too early to start thinking about next year (scroll down a bit). Thanks Molly for bringing these cuh-lassy handbags back to my attention.

- Dozens of dolphins and sea lions trained to detect and apprehend waterborne attackers could be sent to patrol a military base in Washington state

- Forget those slutty Bratz dolls, Barbie is back. You can see her at MAC, the Daytona 500 and starring in Superstar, The Karen Carpenter Story [via].

- I honestly miss this sound [via].

- C'était un Rendezvous - A cult short film now licensed as a music video for Snow Patrol [via].

- The Curling Stones - One of my favorite Olympic sports goes arty.

- Hostility versus kindness, industrial versus craft [also seen at knit lit]

- Instant WAG look-a-like cream

- I've come to the conclusion that, at every moment of my life, I should be prepared to launch into a James Bond-style spy adventure, because you never know when the world is going to demand that of you.

Poor Nameless Slob Cardigan - New Project #41

Poor Nameless Slob Cardigan

This project has been on the needles for a few weeks, so I suppose it has aged enough for me to get around to posting it. It's another top-down raglan -- this time in cardigan form. I had seen a lovely knit jacket by bi la li and fell in love with its chunky ribbed collar. I decided to take it as inspiration and make my own version. The yarn is a yummy, dark chocolate-colored merino I purchased from Yahaira's shop using a Christmas gift certificate. Thank you Kim and André!

The project is going well, but I have to admit to being a bit intimidated by the finishing. I decided to do turned over button bands which, when finished, will be fastened with hook and eye tape. I'm not exactly a sewer, so that may be a bit of tricky business!

The Project: Poor Nameless Slob Cardigan
The Yarn: Dolly Maxi by Laines Du Nord - Purchased from pureknits
The Needles: US7 and US6
Started: January 2007

I have to say I wasn't that impressed. The striped jacket is pretty cute, but you just know that every other girl you see this spring will have on the same thing.

- More fashion road kill. I am a terrible, terrible person and you should not read any further because I am sure you are far too decent a person to sully yourself with any further association with me.

  • True confessions of a novice knitter!
I learned to knit a few years ago, and started a knit blog so I could keep a journal of my knitting progress (or lack thereof).
