Every knitter is a snob about something. In my case, I turn up my nose to patterns for things that should not be knit. For example, the bow tie pictured with this post. Why oh why would someone think this is a good idea? One can easily purchase far more attractive and functional bow ties from a men’s clothier. I can just picture some knitter inflicting this bow tie on his or her poor unsuspecting fiancé and expecting him to wear it at their wedding.

Resist the urge, knitters!

Here's something silly for the weekend.

These disturbingly cute knits are from a booklet (no ISBN as far as I can tell) I purchased in Japan for Jill and the lovely Miss Ada. I bought it at a store called Craft World in Osaka's really cool mall, Namba Parks.

I'm able to post it now because I finally sent it off to her.

However, I do believe the hat and scarf below are my favorite. Don't all stylish little doggies need accessories?

I found this gem at the 2004 Minnesota Textile Center garage sale. I feel bad for the unfortunate "space youth", whose well-intentioned grandmothers knit them outfits from this magazine.

runaway knitting sensation

Nope, the photo at right is not one of Michael Jackson's children. It's America's favorite wild-eyed runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks.

My sister and I were just joking about this last night, but it seems the irrepressible Annie Modesitt has actually created a pattern for the blankie which shielded Ms. Wilbanks from the press on her trip home. Hilarious!

I guess I was wrong when I predicted that America's next hoosegow knitting sensation would be sported by Lil' Kim.

the notorious k.i.m.

Well, it looks like Lil' Kim is headed for the pokey. She was convicted of conspiracy and three counts of perjury yesterday for lying to a federal grand jury investigating a 2001 shootout.

This stint in jail may be a good thing for her career. Look at what it has done for Martha. She used to be a bitch, and she's now everyone's favorite poncho-clad phoenix.

As you all know, that poncho Martha wore on her trip home from the big house has become a sensation. Lion Brand Yarn claims there have already been 175,000 downloads of the free look-alike pattern they've posted on their web site.

I'm predicting that there could be a similar sensation should Lil' Kim wear this sweater (click link labeled "If Straight Men Designed Knitwear") on her way home from the slammer.

counteract the cuteness

Just in case your teeth are aching after that last post, here is a link to something not so cute (well, the dog is cute, the fur trimmed jeans, not so much).

I haven't knitted a single stitch this week. My misadventures with Frida sidetracked me a bit, but I'll get going on it soon.

what to expect when you're not expecting

There is a pattern in the new knitty that will not be coming anywhere near my needles. The sweater would be lovely on the right person, but a bad experience with an unfortunate dress a couple of years back wised me up to the dangers that lurk beneath an empire waist. Somewhere there are photos of me with what looks like a third trimester bump beneath my dress and a glass of red wine in my hand. Not a pretty sight! Which leads me to last night's dream, that I was pregnant, complete with very disturbing belly button pop out action! (Don't worry mom and dad, there is no chance I am -- we would have to call the Pope and Mel Gibson if that was the case!)

According to hyperdictionary, dreaming about being pregnant symbolizes an aspect of yourself or some aspect of your personal life that is growing and developing. I'm excited about the new job that I'm starting very soon, so it probably has something to do with that, but I think it also has to do with the fact that I recently learned that one of my old friends is having a baby. Those crazy kids, babies having babies. I'm very excited for her and her husband. Now I need to find something to knit for their baby in progress!
