Shortly after learning to knit in early 2004, I started searching out news stories about my new favorite past time. I was spending a fair amount of time wading through google news and other sites looking for pertinent stories, so I decided to save others the trouble and started sharing the knitting news stories I found on my knit blog. The posts became a bit frustrating to update in that format, so I decided I could streamline and improve things by starting a separate blog just for knitting news.
For now the posts will continue to contain links to and excerpts from news stories about knitting and related crafts. I hope to add additional content in the future.
The move to this site also lets me assign the knitting news stories to categories descriptive of their content. I'll add new categories as I see a need.
Here are the categories I've set up so far:
knitting activism – knitting as a tool for social or political change
knitting business – profiles of knitting shops and other businesses, as well as stories about knit-related sales trends
knitting celebs - stars of the knitting world (not celebrities who knit)
knitting events – knit outs, exhibitions, etc.
knitting for charity – coverage of knit-related philanthropic efforts
knitting groups – stories about knitting guilds, stitch n bitch groups and the like
knitting history - stories that put the new knitting trend in context or discuss knitting in the past
knitting news clichés – all those stories that mention stereotypical themes like grannies, knitting as the new yoga, celebrities who knit, etc.
knitting publications – new knit-related books and magazines
yarn - new fibers
I hope you find this new blog to be interesting or useful. And, if you ever come across a great news story about knitting that you don't see linked here, please let me know by leaving a comment.
