Son discovers knitting, mom discovers comfort

When my 7-year-old son, Isaac, pleaded to take a ball of yarn with him to an all-boys' campout during spring break, I knew it was serious. For the past couple of weeks, he and a group of boys had been finger knitting after classes at Good Shepherd Episcopal School. During their sessions, they talked about their day, shared stories and knitted.
Instead of knitting with needles, these boys used their fingers. And they weren't knitting doilies or baby sweaters. They were making snakes.
Selfishly, I couldn't be happier.
I found it easier to have television-free weekdays with my first grader. He preferred to finger-knit.
