A Ministry of Love and Prayer
The Standard - October 28 2006
A very special gift was given to Stewart Sisk recently -- it’s a Prayer Shawl that was knitted especially for him by Deb Wyman. She chose beige/brown yarn because the colors stand for ambition/drive, optimism and stability - all qualities that Deb sees in Stewart. As she knitted the shawl, she prayed for Stewart’s good health. The pattern used for the shawl comes with lots of symbolism -- a three stich seed pattern is used (knit 3, purl 3) which is symbolic of the Holy Trinity, and the Holy Family. Two knitting needles are used by one knitter (again 3) with prayers said before, during and after the knitting. When the shawl was finished, Deb and her family took it to Pastor Carl Glamm and Pastor Barb Haugerud for a blessing before she and her husband, John, delivered the shawl to Stewart right before his last radiation treatment for cancer.
